Investing in Dot Ingredients: Sustainable Chemistry for a Greener Future

Climate Venture Capital Fund is proud to announce our latest investment in Dot Ingredients, a New Zealand start-up set to transform the global surfactant industry with its pioneering sustainable Celluspheres technology.

Surfacing from research at AUT, Dot Ingredients has crafted a revolutionary surfactant derived from renewable wood pulp cellulose, directly tackling the reliance on petrochemical and palm oil-based alternatives.

Every year, the world consumes surfactants worth approximately NZD $85 billion. These substances are essential to products used daily in homes and across industries—from soaps and cosmetics to agricultural treatments and industrial coatings. However, the environmental footprint of conventional surfactants is substantial, given their reliance on fossil fuels and palm oil.

Dot Ingredients’ Celluspheres offer a robust, renewable solution capable of sustainably replacing 95% of these traditional surfactants. The company’s initial market focus on cosmetics aligns strategically with rising consumer demand for ethical and environmentally-friendly products.

With this $350,000 investment—led by Motion Capital, alongside CVCF and AUT Innovation Fund—Dot Ingredients will protect its intellectual property, gather crucial industry feedback, expand its team, and prepare for its upcoming Seed funding round.

At Climate Venture Capital Fund, our commitment to driving innovation in sustainable technologies remains unwavering. Dot Ingredients exemplifies the type of transformative climate-positive investments we aim to support, further cementing our position as New Zealand’s premier climate-focused venture capital fund.
